Peace at Last

My kids are finally safe from any danger. Ever since the incident with Bob Ewell I had felt a little more relaxed and safe. My children are now not afraid of the Radley's house. Now that Mr.Arthur is here to protect my children from harm I feel I can trust Jem and Scout alone even more. Scout keeps on protestngthat she wishes to go to the Radley's hosue to see Mr. Arthur. I can not say no so in the end i allowed her to go, but only with Jem. After they left to go to the Radley's I just hoped that the next time I'm in danger i do not drag my kids down with me.

Pagent

It was Halloween and there was a pagent for the best costume in town. Jem escorted Scout to the pagent. Scout was a ham, which I thought was very creative. On the way back from the pagent Jem and Scout had been attacked by none other than Bob Ewell. I was so scared when i hd found out about this event that had taken place. When I was on my way out i noticed that Jem was already in bed. Scout came in almost right away. I was surprised and glad that she was not injured. I called right away for a doctor and Heck tate. Jem only had a broken arm. I was relieved to hear that, but was shocked to hear that Bob Ewell was in fact murdered. In the end Bob did get back at me by getting to my children. Next time if I am taking a risk i promise to never let my children be a part or interfere with my problems.

Best Shot

There was a ravage dog today in the streets. I arrived as quickly as possible with Heck Tate, the Sheriff of the town. Heck told me he had a horrible shot and was put under pressure of shooting the Radley house. I was the only one able to shoot the dog. I had not shot a gun in decades let alone be able to kill a dog in one shot. I did not wish to shoot a gun because I would be setting a very bad example for Jem, who always wished to have a gun. This was an emergency and I had to shoot. I took the shot and in one clean shot the dog fell to its death.

Tom Shot

I had recently found out that Tom was killed for attempt to escape from jail. He was shot not once, but 17 times. All that i had worked for went down the drain. I explained the Calpurnia the horrible event that took place. I had to go and inform Helen, Tom's wife. Jem protested that he come with me to Tom's house to inform Helen. I could not say no to him and also did not want to argue with him. I did not even have to tell Helen because I could already tell that she knew. She fainted soon after in a state of shock.

Threats from Bob

The case was over, and thus the town was in a state of turmoil. As I was walking down the road i was stopped by Bob Ewell. I was threatened by him and told that he would one day get revenge on me, even if it will take him the rest of his life. He spit on my face, which i found only a low man would ever do. I felt pity for the man and ignored it and stood up to him and never backed down. As he left, I wiped my face of the disgusting spit. The only thing I was worried about was Scout and Jem.

Trial

Today is the day of the trial, the case of rape by Tom Robinson. I already know that Tom will be guilty, but have prepared for the occasion. I was prepared to ask many questions, and state many reasons to why Tom is not guilty. I began by qestioning Mayella why she did not yell for help, or fight back. I also stated that Tom's left hand can not be used so he could not have beaten Mayella with two hands. Then I called Tom up and asked him to explain what happened. I believe Tom is not guilty, and was raped by Mayella. Then calpurnia came in passing me a note that the children are not home. I was shocked and furious that they had come. I sent them away and told them to go eat some supper. I had not wished for them to see the end of this case. After waiting for a while, the jury had come to the verdict that Tom is guilty.

Scout was in another fight, but this time she was trying to protect me. A boy named Cecil Jacobs stated Scout's Daddy defends N******. As I predicted, I risked Jem and Scout's lives. Scout has already been mocked. I hope that Jem is smart enough to ignore these comments and help Scout until the end of the case. I was glad that this time Scout turned to me for questions instead of the town. I explained to her why I had to defend Tom: If I didn't I couldn't hold my head up in town . I put her up on my lap and told her the people we are fighting against are still our friends.

Court Case

I had been asked by John Taylor to defend a black man, Tom Robinson. This was hard choice, if I chose to defend Tom i would most definitly lose the case, and can risk Jem and Scout's safety. If I do not defend him, who will? I chose to defend Tom to set an example to my kids, to show them that negros are equal to us. I hoped Jem and Scout come to me for their answers and not listen to the town. As I was speaking to Jack I noticed Scout and left her alone because I wished for her to listen to every word I said. I wanted her to understand why people are mocking her. I just hope I made the right choice to help Tom.

Games

Today Jem, Scout, and Dill were playing a game. I was only able to catch small glimpses of them playing, but i was able to tell right away. They were playing a game about the Radley's. Right away I was furious but did not show it. I took away the scissors Jem was holding and the newspapers and went back inside. I did not hear anything else after that from them, until Jem and Scout began arguing about me knowing what they were doing. I stifled a laugh because I was sure Jem would win.

Cunningham

Today Jem and Scout brought over a guest, a Cunningham. I learned alot about how they lived in just a matter on minutes. I was very disappointed how Scout treated him. She criticized Walter on the way he ate. Even if he smothered all of his food in syrup she should not criticize people on the way they ate. Before i lost my anger with her Calpurnia took her outside and spoke with her. I just hope Scout does not embarass us or anyone else again.
